Even if there had been contestants, I doubt if any would have come close to the overwhelming support and votes garnered by Pharm Tony Anderson, considering his remarkable track record in the affairs of ACPN at the national level.
As a long-standing community pharmacist who runs one of the busiest community pharmacy outlets among the younger generation, Golden Drug Pharmacy, he has consistently demonstrated excellence, professionalism, and visionary leadership. These qualities have earned him recognition as one of the major stakeholders in community pharmacy practice, successfully bridging both the older and younger generations of pharmacists.
His emergence as Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria ( ACPN) , Akwa Ibom State Branch, further showcased his leadership capacity. During his tenure, he introduced innovative programmes such as the weekly radio health awareness programme and the anti-drug abuse campaign for secondary schools across the state. These initiatives were sustained with credibility, transparency, prudent management of the association’s resources, and measurable impact.
Following the successful completion of his tenure as ACPN State Chairman, his commitment and contributions at the national level earned him appointment as Chairman of the Community Pharmacists Career Progression Institute (CPCPI)—an advocacy, academic, and research institution established to elevate the quality, competence, and professional standards of community pharmacists.
His unwavering passion to continue contributing to the growth and development of ACPN at the national level inspired him to declare interest in the office of National Publicity Secretary. Today, 28 July 2026, that aspiration has become reality as he has been duly sworn in as the National Publicity Secretary of ACPN.
For me, my assignment as Media Adviser to his campaign organisation has come to a successful conclusion, but it also marks the beginning of an even greater chapter of collaboration and service at the national level.
While extending my journalistic coverage to the just-concluded ACPN National Conference, I was deeply encouraged when the Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Pharm Donatus Adigom, came across one of my reports. He was delighted enough to share it with the National Publicity Secretary and later remarked:
«” Thank you very much . I had to reach out after reading your article 👇🏽.»
«There’s no limit to what we can achieve together. Pharmacy journalism is a frontier in pharmacy practice where a huge gap has existed since the loss of Pharm Atueyi. I’m happy you are filling that gap in Akwa Ibom and will soon do so internationally.”»
The rest, as they say, is history.
I do not take this commendation, encouragement, and vote of confidence for granted. It is both a challenge and a motivation to continue raising the bar in pharmacy journalism.
As men of honour, we shall continue to join hands in advancing the pharmacy profession, promoting excellence, and contributing meaningfully to the growth of healthcare in Nigeria and beyond.
